Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts at fame with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels before being later dropped by them before the release of any music. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, and received little attention for its jolly playful song. I Loved a Girl a straightforward ode expressing sexual curiosity backed with the beat of a hardedged electropop caused her to make a bigger splash within a couple of months. The track quickly caused controversy as some critics derided the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians while others claimed that the sexually explicit scene the song depicted sparked the fantasies of males about sexuality in females. However, the mix of sensuality and polished music helped I Kissed a Girl become an instant hit across multiple countries, generating the sales of her album One of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with the song that was its second biggest hit was a hit. The album that Perry created herself sold more than three million copies.
